Project “Rethinking through the creation of exhibitions”
In January 2024, we launched the project “Rethinking through the creation of exhibitions,” within which we developed a detailed concept for future exhibitions in the basement of the Zdolbuniv Museum.

🥹A project we have wanted to talk about for a long time, and now we can.
🔥In January 2024, we launched the project “Rethinking through the creation of exhibitions,” in which we developed a detailed concept for future exhibitions in the basement of the Zdolbuniv Museum, located in a building constructed in 1903 as the “Tsarist Gendarmerie Administration with Pre-Trial Detention Cells.” The building served as a police station for various occupation regimes and is a symbol of the continuity of Ukraine's struggle for independence.
🤫❗️During the museum's operation, the team discovered the entire complex of prison basement rooms (195 m2), consisting of four detention cells, a torture chamber, two solitary confinement cells, and a morgue. They contain unique inscriptions left by prisoners, bloodstains, remnants of shackles, and bullet marks at the site of executions.🕳️
Our team, which included Valeria Karpan, Petro Dolganov, and Andriy Usach, discussed and developed the ideal concept for exhibitions that could tell the story of the building's use and the lives of prisoners and prison staff without traumatizing visitors.
And so, today we can present to you our work, which has been digitized by the professional team at Town Image Studio.
The project was implemented by the NGO “Center for Sustainable Initiatives” as part of the “Memory Network” project with the support of the German Foreign Ministry, project partner UCIG (Ukrainian Center for Holocaust Studies), the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe Foundation, and Inshaya Osvita (IO).
