The Mystery of the Building on Fabrichna Street Project

This project is dedicated to the history of the building that houses the Zdolbuniv Local History Museum.

Логотип проєкту

It was built in 1903 as a “Gendarmerie station with preliminary detention cells” and until 1954 served as a police station for various occupation regimes of the 20th century. From 1960 to 1990, the building housed a district dental clinic (better known among local residents), and from 1990 to 2010, it was occupied by the State Security Service of Ukraine. Since then, the premises have been systematically destroyed and turned into a rubbish dump. Therefore, in 2014, it was decided to house a museum in the building.

Throughout the museum's development, an integral part of its audience has been a large group of volunteers who perform various tasks, gaining valuable experience and having the opportunity to recreate history here and now.

As part of the project, our team set up new exhibitions in the museum corridors and recorded a series of three podcasts about the importance of volunteers in organizations, their activities, and areas of focus. We explored the topic of project activities in institutions and discussed why they are important for development. The podcasts are now available on various platforms (links below).

Regarding the exhibits in the museum corridors:

-The first exhibit, “Corridor of Gratitude and History of the Building,” covers the period from its founding in 1903 to 1954. The fundraising corridor is dedicated to organizations and individuals who contributed to the development and materially supported the work of the museum. There are also two main tables in this corridor. One of them is a museum navigation guide, and the other briefly describes the stages of the museum's creation.

-The second exhibition, “The Period of Dental Use,” covers the period from 1960 to 1990. This corridor provides detailed information not only about dentistry, but also about all the institutions that were located in the building.

-The third exhibition is “The Volunteer Movement in the Establishment of the Zdolbuniv Museum.” The corridor is about the volunteers who have been making the museum better since its inception. It features their photos and items that have always been useful.
