Archaeological potential of Zdolbuniv community
It seems like a simple plot of land, but what a potential it has!
What piece of land are we talking about?
Looking at the photo, it seems to the average viewer that there is nothing special here, but we think differently.
These territories you see in the photo are not just ramparts, but archaeological sites, witnesses of ancient times - the remains of settlements. What is a settlement?
Horodyshche (Old Slavonic) means “a settlement fortified with ramparts and ditches; a place where the remains of a fortified settlement have been preserved”; the remains of a once-fortified settlement.

Dating from the eighth to the middle of the thirteenth century and covering an area of 0.7 hectares, Hlynske settlement belongs to the Romany culture and the Old Russian period. This place is not only historically significant but also culturally rich.

The Old Rus Mylske settlement (now the village of Novomylsk, Zdolbuniv district) is located on the eastern outskirts of the village, occupying a promontory on the right bank of the river Ustia.
“here Volodymyr Halytskyi, going to the aid of Yurii Dovhorukyi, met with Andrii Yuriiovych, who was reigning in Peresopnytsia at that time.” Fragments of stucco and pottery and Bronze Age flintware were found here, which testifies to its importance and historical significance.
So, how can the community use such an archaeological treasure for tourism and cultural development?
There are actually many options, but such settlements have great potential for tourism and cultural development. Therefore, the so-called Archaeological Parks are a very good solution for the community.
In fact, this is an open-air museum that can contain many locations for recreation, tourist visits, events, festivals, history, archeology, excursions, walks, camps, and many other initiatives.
We believe it is important to use this potential for community development. After all, the so-called Archaeological Park can certainly become a highlight of the community, help popularize Zdolbuniv and encourage new tourists.
